Meet the Teacher
Mrs. Kilpatrick-Zelina
Hi there! I am Lily Zelina, but formerly known as Lily Kilpatrick. I got married in April of 2024, but still go by my maiden name at work. I am a 4th year teacher, who has taught a wide variety of things. I began my career in April of 2021 as a Pre-K substitute teacher, then I taught gifted at the elementary level (2nd-6th). I missed teaching social studies so I moved schools to teach 6th & 7th social studies and 10th grade English. I have now been at the same Charter school for three years and while some days are difficult, I truly love it! I have moved on to teach 9th grade World History, 10th grade U.S History and 12th grade Gov & Econ.
Qualifications
I have my Bachelor’s of Education from the University of Toledo. I also graduate with my Master’s of Science in Curriculum and Instruction in October of 2024.

It was a good but exhausting day. Our school is out of paper and both copiers are on strike, more like refusing to work. It was an interesting day rearranging lesson plans to accommodate the lack of paper. You always have to be on your toes as a teacher. It was nice to stay after school a bit to print what I needed for tomorrow, even though I had to fight the copier a bit.

I am so glad I stayed after yesterday to get those copies done. I was able to actually focus on planning for next week. I am trying out a new strategy with an informational article to help with retention. I’ll share how it goes later next week. Yay for it being Friday!

I have finally caught the back to school bug. I have been super diligent to try NOT to catch it. Thankfully today is a PD day so there’s no students and I can suffer in moderate silence. I think I will ask to leave a bit early so I can head to urgent care.

Well... I did not catch a school bug. I had sepsis... I was hospitalized for three days and released on bedrest for the remainder of the week. Talk about a wild ride. Yesterday, I slept 21 hours and I still feel like I could sleep 21 more. However, I am on the mend so that is a positive.

Today is my first full day back with students and it has been wonderful. The students have been incredibly kind and caring, and very excited about my return. I am as equally excited about returning to work and seeing them. I am truly blessed to have such great students and I am happy to be well enough to come back to work. I do have surgery to remove the infection from the bone in my jaw in two weeks. I am nervous, but I think it will go well.

Finally Friday
August 30th, 2024
II am a huge fan of Fridays. My students were chill and the day went so smoothly. It was so nice to be able to use my planning to catch up on grading and documentation rather than putting fires out around my building. I also hung up some student projects in the hallway and my students loved seeing their work in the hallway. They were pointing it out to their friends. Today was really refreshing after such a tough week.

It’s a short week
Tuesday, September 3rd
I am so happy that this week this only a three day school week. We have PD on Friday, which I don’t mind. I look at PD days as an opportunity to learn more about my craft and a way to build relationships with my colleagues. As for the school day, it was much calmer than the week prior. I hope the remainder of the week is just as good.
Dumpster Fire
Wednesday, September 4th
Our ELA teacher called out today at 8:15am. We had to scramble to find coverage for him and it was a disaster. However, at the end of the day, all of the students were safe, and nothing was set ablaze. It was very disappointing to have four kids that I strongly advocated for betray my trust. Between the four of them, they stole 70 fruit snacks, broke 5 rulers, and drink my Gatorade that is for my health condition. They also trashed my room. Admin is dishing out consequences, but it still hurts my heart today.

Back to School
August 22nd, 2024
It’s the end of the first week of school and I am exhausted. One of the new teachers in my cohort called out for three days straight. Unfortunately, we don’t have a building sub so I have had to take on additional students everyday. Despite that, the school year seems to be moving in a promising direction as I navigate leading the 9th and 10th grade cohort, Charting your Course.

I need to clone myself
August 27th, 2024
Today was rough, we had two cohort teachers out.... Meaning we split up classes and I had 40 students in my room. My largest class has 18 students and I have 22 desks. I have no idea how I managed it but I did. Now, I am off to sleep because I thought I was exhausted last Friday.... I was wrong. This is a whole new level of tired.
Finally peaceful
August 28th, 2024
Today was very chill in comparison to the previous five days. All of the cohort teachers were present and students were in class. It gave me time to catch up on grading and documentation.
TPT Updates
September 19th, 2024
I finally got to post the world maps that I created using procreate on my iPad. I included six variations of the mapping assignment with word banks and without. It can also be turned into a fun coloring and labeling activity for students.

I have begun my next project for my store. I am working on a few Historical Document based activities for my 10th grade U.S History class. These assignments will be aligned with Ohio’s social studies standards so look forward to seeing updates on those!

TPT Updates
September 4th, 2024
I just posted a new resource to my TPT store. It is a seven continents poster set that shares quick facts about each continent. It displays the geography of the continent, populace, wildlife, languages, and more. I also added it to the big Social Studies Poster Bundle!
September 5th, 2024
My big project today was going through the list of standards I am teaching and creating a list of posters that I can create to benefit fellow teachers. For World History, I came up with at least 15 more poster sets; and U.S History I have 22 more poster sets. I am currently looking at Government and Economics to continue making posters for those subjects. My first priority will be MWH and U.S History since I am currently teaching those courses. If you have any requests, please reach out.
September 18th, 2024
I finally finished up the World Religions posters that I started before I was hospitalized. I added them to my TPT store and the growing Anchor Charts and Poster’s Bundle. The Bundle is currently $20.00, which is 25.5% off! I highly recommend getting the bundle soon while the price is low! There are 16 resources in it currently!
